Diana Rigg born as Enid Diana Elizabeth Rigg on July 20th, 1938 in Doncaster, Yorkshire, England is an amazing English actress best known for her role of Emma Peel in a television soap opera "The Avengers".
Diana Rigg was born to Beryl Helliwell and her husband Louis Rigg, a railway engineer. Diana Rigg spent her early childhood of eight years in India as her father was then stationed in Bikaner in Rajasthan in India as a railway engineer. She later moved back to Yorkshire.
Diana Rigg began her acting career at the age of seventeen. Her acting stint was in "The Caucasian Chalk Circle" in 1955. She made her big-screen debut with "Our Man in the Caribbean" {1962} and television debut with a guest role on "The Sentimental Agent" in 1963.
Diana Rigg got her breakthrough role of Emma Peel on the ABC Weekend's 1961 recurring television drama "The Avengers" {51 episodes: 1965-1968} for which she received two Emmy nominations in 1967 & 1968 besides winning the BAFTA Award in 2000 in sharing with the other starcast. Diana Rigg also won BAFTA Award & a Broadcasting Press Guild Award for her role in a television movie "Mother Love" {1989}. She also won Emmy Award for her role in "Rebecca" {Tv Film: 1997} and received two more nominations from Emmy for "In This House of Brede" {Tv Film: 1975} and "Victoria & Albert" {Tv Film: 2001}. She further received a Golden Globe nomination for her role in "The Hospital" {1971} and received a Laurel Award nomination for "The Assassination Bureau" {1969}. Diana Rigg was also conferred the 'Commander of the Order of the British Empire {CBE} in 1988 and a 'Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire {DBE} in 1994.
